I discovered pole dancing in 2016—and like so many others, I was instantly hooked. The blend of strength, flexibility, and artistry challenged my body in new and exciting ways. But as I progressed, I noticed a serious gap in our world: a lack of accessible, evidence-based guidance for injury prevention, rehab, and performance support for pole dancers and aerialists.

And then the injuries started piling up—not just mine, but my classmates’ too.
​
As a physiotherapist with over a decade of experience, I couldn’t unsee what was happening. Pole is unlike any other sport or activity. The physical demands are highly specific, and the traditional rehab for injuries just doesn’t cut it. I was seeing pole dancers time and time again being told to either 'stop pole dancing' or being rehabbed about a quarter of what they needed to be able return without injury. What became obvious at the time was that most health professionals didn't understand how to support our unique pole dancer needs. So, with this information in mind and passion in hand, I decided to change that for good.

I began treating dancers from my local studio—and everything changed. Injury rates dropped. Confidence soared. Pole goals were smashed left, right, and centre. Very quickly though I realised I didn’t just want to make a difference in my local community, I wanted to support the pole and aerial world and make a difference on a global scale.

And so, The Pole Physio was born.
